Supply Ontario has committed to purchasing 500 million locally manufactured medical grade nitrile gloves from London, Ontario based Manikheir Canada.
This procurement is an integral part of a $165 million investment, including up to $72 million by the Ontario and Canadian governments, to construct a new 140,000 square-foot glove manufacturing production facility and ensure long-term access to personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies for front-line health care workers.
“This is a tremendous example of how government procurement can strengthen supply chain resiliency, protect our workers and support jobs and economic growth,” said Jamie Wallace, CEO of Supply Ontario.
“I’m extremely proud of the work our team and Mohawk Medbuy undertook to support this project and deliver a sustainable supply of domestically produced nitrile gloves that will be used in hospitals, across the health care system and more broadly,” Wallace said.
Encouraging domestic PPE resiliency is a core mandate for Supply Ontario. Pre-pandemic, all PPE procured by Ontario was sourced internationally. With this procurement, and through the work undertaken by the Supply Ontario team on the Building Ontario Businesses Initiative (BOBI), more than 90 per cent of critical PPE is now sourced from Ontario manufacturers and companies.

Ensuring Ontario continues to build a strong and resilient economy through strategic investments in the province’s manufacturing sector is part of Ontario’s Plan to Stay Open, supported by Supply Ontario.
Manikheir Canada, a subsidiary of internationally recognized Medicom Group, is constructing a state-of-the-art factory in London dedicated to producing nitrile gloves that will be used in dental, industrial, medical, lab and research and retail sectors.
