Supply Ontario is seeking a highly motivated Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this role will be responsible for delivering strategic legal advice and support across a wide range of areas including government procurement. The successful candidate will also provide expertise in contract law, intellectual property, and commercial law, helping to shape and support Supply Ontario’s mission and operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our ambitious mandate to transform and modernize public procurement in Ontario.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts to support SO’s mandates, program objectives, and procurement activities, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide timely and proactive legal advice on matters related to contracts, procurement, corporate law, and administrative law.
  • Advise on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, regulations, and broader public sector policies, ensuring compliance across SO’s operations.
  • Support Senior Legal Counsel on high-impact projects, complex commercial contract negotiations, and strategic legal initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal business units, procurement teams, and external stakeholders to ensure legal advice aligns with operational objectives and promotes effective decision-making.
  • Identify and assess legal risks associated with agency programs, services, and procurement practices, and propose actionable risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance on legal issues related to intellectual property, confidentiality, privacy, liability, and commercial negotiation strategies.
  • Support the development, review, and improvement of legal policies, procedures, and contract templates to support consistency and mitigate legal risk.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of contract management processes, legal templates, and internal legal resources.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent law degree. 
  • 5 years of progressive experience as legal counsel, with sound knowledge of procurement and commercial law.
  • Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario. 
  • Experience within the political/public service would be considered an asset.
  • Strong legal judgment and analytical thinking, with the ability to assess complex legal issues and make risk-informed recommendations.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear legal opinions, contracts, and correspondence for both legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to handle a high-volume practice and advise on urgent matters with short turnaround times.
  • Experience in legal research and analysis, with the ability to independently manage files and inspire client confidence in high-stakes or fast-paced environments.
  • Flexibility to provide innovative solutions to complex problems to adapt to a changing work environment. 

Supply Ontario offers a competitive compensation package including benefits and defined benefit pension plan.

The selected candidate will be required to reside and work in Ontario and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement; at the time of posting, this position would require in-office presence 3 days per week, based on current operational requirements.
